This is the number one question that is most asked TO and BY people who are looking for information about working from home.  There seems to be a lot of confusion as to what the difference is between a "home business" and a "work at home job".

I have personally been involved with network marketing and direct sales for over 10 years.  Anyone who has tried network marketing knows that you spend a lot of time on the phone talking with people.  Inevitably, you will run across someone who thinks they are looking for a home business, but they are really just wanting a job.  How can you tell?  They will tell you they do not want to "pay for a job".

I believe that all of us who have already gone through that process have a duty to explain the difference to those who have just started looking to work at home.  We need to take the time to explain to them that a work at home business is a real business like any other business that you start yourself.  Any business that you personally start will have start up costs of some kind.  Even if you are just going to clean houses,  you will need to purchase cleaning supplies and pay for the gas to drive to the location.  Plus there are many tax benefits for those who have their own business.

For those who are really just wanting a job, I feel it's common courtesy to alert them about the many scams on the internet today.  Most people will already know about the obvious scams of envelope stuffing, assembling products and data entry from home.  But it is nice to make sure they are aware of these scams.  I share with them the fact that they should not have to EVER pay for a job or even information about a job.  It would be like going to your local supermarket and paying them to interview and then hire you.  Who would do that?!?

Which is the better choice then, to have a home business or a work at home job?  It will depend on the individual and what their needs and goals are for themselves.  Many people are content to have a job with structured hours but the benefit of working from home and not having to commute.  Plus with a job, you will have a guaranteed income.  Other people prefer to work for themselves by having and investing in their own usiness.  While they may earn less in the beginning, they have an unlimited earning potential down the road.  However, they will need to be dedictated and disciplined enough to set up a schedule and stick to it.  Yes, your schedule can be flexible, but you MUST work your business in order to make money.

Whether to work at home with a business or a job is something that should be researched by everyone before getting started.  You will find a huge quantity of books and websites that are full of free information about working at home.  I would suggest reading as much as you can about how to successfully work from home as well as plenty of research about what you want to do from home.  There are many, many home businesses and jobs available.  It is just a matter of finding what you are passionate about and what you are willing to do to be able to stay at home.

So, which is better, a home business or a work at home job?  The good news is....there is no wrong answer!  It will all depend on you.

Why do we send out cards?

How many greeting cards do you send every month?  Every Year?  Or, are you sending more e-cards because it's easier?  Everyday we send emails, surf websites, tele-commute to our jobs and even work from home with our own businesses.  We pay our bills online.  We purchase gifts online.  Even comparision shopping can be done online.  The internet has in some ways, simplified our lives.  But at the same time, it has also taken away the "personal touch" that so many of us enjoy.

How often do you receive a card for your birthday, a holiday, or just because someone loves you?  Do you enjoy receiving cards in the mail?  Do you like to send out cards to others?  It seems as though most of our mail these days is either bills, pre-approved credit card offers or someone trying to sell you something that you don't need or want.    I believe we are so use to sending a quick email or an e-card, that we have forgotten the joy of receiving a card or even a hand written note.

This year for Valentine's Day, I received a card from an old and dear friend.  Did it make my day?  YES!  It simply said how much she valued our friendship even though we don't get to see each other as much these days.  I will tell you that it improved my whole day!  That one red envelope, among the bills and junk mail.  It didn't require a lot of time or effort on her part.  She may have spent only a few minutes choosing a card, addressing it and putting on the stamp.  But the good feeling it left with me has lasted far longer.

After I received a special card in the mail, it made me think about how I could make others in my life feel special.  I could send out cards to family members I don't see very often.  Just a simple card to say hello, and I am thinking about you today.  From there I expanded my thinking to sending cards to my current customers.  How much would it mean to them to receive a thank you card in the mail?  No advertising, just a card to say thank you for being a valued customer.  What about potential customers?  Send out cards to potential customers just to introduce yourself to them so they know you are in the neighborhood and what services you offer.

With the state of the economy I believe we are headed back in the direction of being a more "personal" country.  Statistics show we are spending more time with family and friends and spending less on eating out and going places.  We are re-discovering some of the simplier things in life that can bring so much fun and joy to our lives without costing money.  And while we are getting back to simpler times, let's start making our friends and family feel more special.  Let's send out cards today!

Today is the first day of my journey into writing my own articles for publication.  I keep hearing over and over how writing articles is a great way to get your name and your website out into the big world wide web so others can find you and your website or blog.

When I first started to think about writing an article, my first thoughts were what am I going to write about?  Can I actually write something that someone else would want to read?  Then the more thought I gave to it, the more ideas and topics came to me.  I am pledging to myself to write an article each week.  With just one article per week, I will constantly have my name and website floating around cyber space.  I have committed myself to doing the activities that will bring people to my site for information.  While they are here, hopefully they will take the time to look around and find things that interest them.  Perhaps, even make a purchase.

I will begin posting my articles here in the next day or two as I get them completed.  All articles can be used by anyone as long as you leave my Author's Notes in tact with the link to my site.
